Lower Peninsula Trail Concerns

The Homer District has over the years worked on several trails related projects, many located in the Caribou Hills area.  All our projects in the Caribou Hills have been funded through habitat or water quality grants as they have addressed concerns based on the degradation of natural resources due to off road vehicle traffic (ORV) in this area. The District’s trail projects include upgrades to the Water Hole trail located 18 mile east of Ninichick, addressing inadequate stream crossings along the Watermelon trail north of Homer and the boardwalk trail to Caribou Lake.

The Homer District sponsors an active ATV user group through the Alaska Clean Water Action Program, this group was initially coordinated to address concerns over the condition of numerous ATV crossings on streams within two watersheds Deep Creek and Anchor River.  This group is comprised of landowners, land managers, regulatory agencies and trail user.  The user group meets bi-annually.
