Homer Demonstration Forest
The Homer Demonstration Forest (HDF) is a 360-acre community
forest located just outside the northwest corner of the City
of Homer. Formally established in 1986, the HDF is managed by
the Homer Soil and Water Conservation District (HSWCD) under
an agreement with Alaska Dept of Natural Resources, Division
of Forestry, with input and guidance from the HDF Steering Committee.
The overall goals and objectives of the HDF are to develop an
outdoor educational setting focused on forests, forestry, forest
recreation, natural resource stewardship and watershed protection.
Spruce chips from beetle-killed trees provide stable footing
on many HDF trails courtesy of Dave Brann, long time environmental
educator and trails volunteer.
